Baltimore perk

One of the many nice things about being a historian in Baltimore is getting to spend an afternoon working in this library:

Collective Improvisation:
That is one beautiful picture. It really made this ex-librarian's heart go pitter-pat. And this acrophobe's, too (though for different reasons...)

The good news for acrophobes is that the stacks are closed: only the librarians have to scale those heights to retrieve your books.

This is an exceptionally beautiful library. I would love to examine its collection. Any idea how many texts it holds?

The homepage for the library says that the library holds about 300,000 volumes. It seems to be particularly strong in rare nineteenth-century books.
